Description:

My favorite sequence shot from Andrei Tarkovsky's "Zerkalo" or "The Mirror". This is actually in Russian but that was not an option so I put German.

noone could express the real meaning of the wonderfull work of the Strugatsky brothers, "stalker", but Tarkovsky... he is sometimes called a "excessive complex filmmaker" but how translate "excessive complex stories" being simple ? Tarkovsky's Solaris and Soderbergh's Solaris are examples... one is Stanislaw Lem story, other is a good approach to a shadow of Lem's original story... good, but not genial as Tarkovsky's....

If anyone can tell me how he managed to direct the bottle so it fell at just the right moment after the boys leve the room I would happily buy them a round! Tarkovsky is the only director I know who has the ability to film nature, rooms, places as they must be when no-one is looking at them. Once the boys have left that room something happens to it. It comes alive, or a presence fills it. Its like the Zen koan...

It took me about 3-4 replays before I finally understood it - genius. Anyone who liked this shot should check out Tarkovsky's Solaris.

Children of Men...? Passingly good--love the exit scene with the troops gathered around. But do yourself a favor and watch Tarkovsky. His films come the closest to portraying the psychological nature of human dreams and memories than any other... The day somebody turned me on to his Solyaris (the original, not the one with George Clooney) completely changed my life.

Not even close, watch the entirety of Mirror, it makes Cuaron look like Bret Ratner.

Um...I'm guessing this is from an old film and shockingly good at the time but...Children of Men anyone?
