Hey man:
Often the prefix 'extra' means 'outside of', like say, in an 'extra'-marital affair. I think the 'extra'-ordinary is something out of the ordinary.
Also, I'm pretty sure the 'ch' in the middle of 'pulchritude' is pronouced like a hard 'c', as is the 'ch' in 'school' or 'scheme'.
Not absolutely positive about either of these; pretty sure though.

Over time "extra" came to mean "more" rather than "out/outside". Think about asking for an extra helping of apple pie, adter saying "may I have an extra portion" for the third time, you would be glad to shorten it to "May I have extra". Apologies for the typing - keypad is broken.

Extrordinary comes from two words, extra and ordinary. Extra originally meant out/outside as in extralegal (something not illegal or legal for which there are no laws i.e. outside of the laws, extravehicular (NASAl oves this word meaning something
outside of the vehicle. So extrordinary= outside of the ordinary i.e. something special.
