Snow and Ice Hits Western Washington

Description: Date: January 10, 2007 A lot of snow and ice covered Western Washington for a few days in January. The snow fell fast and stuck on the night of January 10, 2007. Temperatures then dropped to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit and stayed that way until about the 15th of January. If you're not from Washington and wondering why Washingtonians freak out so much when it snows, it is because of the our mountainous region . . . many of us live on hills or at least go over one or two on the way to our jobs or school. Speaking of "school", it was obviously cancelled, and the first day it reopened buses operated on emergency snow routes (in most areas). Metro bus drivers were told not to stop at bus-stops that were located on the upward half of hills so they wouldn't get stuck. Many people had to abandon their cars if they didn't have chains. And police in some areas were only responding to injury accidents, because there were so many minor ones. The WSDOT and local government worked round the clock to clear roads of slippery ice and snow, but some people were forced to stay in their homes and let the snow melt before venturing out.
